Calling the clock

The mechanics and the etiquette. Used right, keeps a game flowing.

A "clock call" is how players (or the director) force a tanking player to act. Most events cap decision time at around 30 seconds once the clock is called.

The mechanics

Any player can request the clock
The director decides whether to grant it.

Grant and announce
Say "10-second countdown starting now" and run it audibly.

If time expires with no action
Their hand is dead. The pot awards to the last-active player unless a side action changes that.
In home games, be generous the first few times. Regulars learn the norms quickly and the clock becomes rare.
